Following your dreams can be both exciting and terrifying! Here is great post on how to fulfill them.
Elizabeth Sweeney is a mom who is successfully balancing parenthood while building a thriving business. Check out her inspiring story.
– Elizabeth, you are the mom of two small children and a Level V Consultant at Rodan+Fields, meaning you are ranked in the top 2.5% of the company. Your team was even recently featured in a huge spread in Allure magazine. So how did this all happened?
E.S: Before Rodan+Fields – I was a film business girl by trade and a musician. I LOVED my career as a wardrobe stylist and playing in bands around the city and I was making a name for myself. But then I got pregnant and too sick and everything fell apart. Not working while pregnant was quite traumatizing. But my husband had never seen me happier and I had never been happier – I was home with our babies. We were broke, but we were happy. We knew I would work again but we both agreed I would never return to the stress and crazy hours of the film business.
-And that is when you came across Rodan +Fields?
E.S: Yes, it fell into my lap, I was not looking for anything, but I had a feeling about it that I could not pass up. My husband was against it but I put my foot down and told him he had to trust me. Luckily I wear the pants in our relationship. I also had awful skin – cystic acne and sun damage, but I never found anything that worked for me. I tried all natural products that just made my skin issues worse and I tried everything at Sephora. Name a product, it was in my cabinet. So I was a skeptic about the products and the business but I couldn’t get it out of my head. So without a dime to spare and no savings, I put my investment on our credit card and became a business owner. I paid off my kit in 60 days. The products literally gave me the beautiful skin I had always wanted AND confidence and a belief in myself that I lost as an unemployed pregnant woman!!!
– Amazing. You took a leap of faith and it is paying off…
E.S: What started as a way for us to have a few extra hundred dollars a month has turned into something so much bigger. The other part of my story is after being forced to walk away from my career, we were living paycheck to paycheck and we didn’t have extra money for anything. I was going to have to go back to work and leave my little ones eventually. But I am so grateful for this business for giving us options. I am so passionate about not missing a moment with our little ones but I also want them to see me working and successful and working toward something. It’s paying off. And I’m on a mission to out-earn my husband. I love being a business owner, working from my smartphone, on the road, from home, or wherever, and I am providing for my family, but not sacrificing time with them.
-Congratulations on your success and thanks for sharing your story with us!

Great article by Dr. Max Belkin
We are so used to our habitual ways of feeling and thinking that even the most introspective individuals have trouble looking at their mental habits from an outside perspective. Thus, as Freud astutely pointed out, self-analysis is not enough. Many of our implicit thoughts and covert emotions are only revealed when we are having a conversation with another person. Having to articulate our experiences to somebody else makes us acknowledge them to ourselves and allows us to reflect on them.
